The CNIB Centre is a five-storey structure overlooking Bayview Avenue in midtown Toronto. It is widely acknowledged as a groundbreaking model of universal design. In designing the 204,000-square foot space, special attention was given to how it could be experienced with all the senses. It is the new home for CNIB’s centre of operations in Canada. The mechanical features of the project included:
- The bringing in of all new storm, sanitary and
water services to the site.
- The exterior ramp down to the underground parking
level was heated using plastic tubing feed with glycol.
- Each floor was heated and cooled by ductwork with
VAV containing a reheat coil.
- Varying roof levels required intricate drainage systems.
- A complex diesel fuel storage system that meets all
of TSSA requirements.
- Commissioning all equipment to ensure proper functioning.
Kelson Highlights:
- Kelson acted as the General Mechanical Contractor.
- Kelson participated with the owner in successfully completing
their Quality Control and Validation Protocols allowing CNIB to
operate within their standards.
