Art Gallery of Ontario

From renowned architect Frank Gehry the AGO Transformation will present an open and animated streetscape, and will incorporate a 20% increase in overall building size while adding 40% more exhibition space.  Renovated space will total 190,000 sq. ft. and an addition will add 97,000 sq. ft.


ATI Office Building

ATI Technologies - This structure not only includes the latest in Internet servers, video cards and gaming services, but has an extremely modern and spacious layout.  To prevent any down time to their customers, ATI instructed Kelson to install a city water backup system to the cooling units, which guaranteed air conditioning.


Bell Canada Creekbank - Phase lll

Bell's Creekbank Phase III project is a new construction office space project in Mississauga. Construction manager AECON Buildings, along with MHPM Project Managers Inc., began the construction of this five-storey office building with two levels of underground parking in August 2007. This project institutes environmental design that includes the following landscape elements: high albedo paving, high efficiency irrigation, and dark sky compliant lighting which conform to LEED standards.


Eaton Centre

Stretching two full city blocks, The Toronto Eaton Centre is a historical landmark, and today one of Canada’s best-known retail shopping destinations, attracting millions of visitors annually. The multi-storey glass-ceiling structure originated from one man’s dream to revolutionize the Canadian retail industry.
On October 20, 2007 Geo. A. Kelson Company Limited executed a three-hour helicopter lift operation at the Toronto Eaton Centre. Kelson helped organize the helicopter lift of 20 Air Handling Units to 20 Queen St., a building that is part of the Eaton Centre. In total, fifteen lifts were done transporting the Air Handling Units over a three hour period.


Four Seasons Hotel

55 Storey Building comprised of 22 floors of hotel with 32 storeys of condominium private residences, c/w 5 levels of under ground parking and ground floor retail area.

Hotel has 2 ballrooms, pool, complete spa facility, 2 restaurants,a business/convention facility, as well as upgraded Executive Suites,a Royal and Presidential Suite. 
 

 

Gardiner Museum of Ceramic Art

This 46,000 square foot building expansion and total interior renovation project for the Gardiner Museum of Ceramic Arts is located in the heart of Toronto’s Queen’s Park. Construction included renovation to the existing structure and the creation of a third floor.


Hershey Centre Arena

The Hershey Centre is the home of the new “Ice Dogs” hockey team and is the latest, up to date hockey arena in Mississauga.
The arena contains a main rink, which seats 5,500.  It also provides a practice and public rink, which holds another 1,200 seats. The main ventilation system is the latest in arena applications, as is the ice making facility.

Kolter Office Buildings

Kolter Office Buildings is a six building complex at Leslie and the 407, and contains numerous tenants of various products and services. George A. Kelson successfully bid and obtained the first structure. It was completed on schedule and within budget. This effort, along with a good relationship with the Owner, was rewarded with the opportunity to negotiate the remaining five buildings. All of which were again completed to the satisfaction of the Owner.


Motorola Canada Centre

The new Motorola Corporate Head Office Building, located in Markham at the 407, is the first structure in this new business complex.  It is six stories high and is complete with its own backup generating station.  As this is one of Motorola’s main office buildings in Canada, it contains vital information and required a security system that is “state of the art”.


Nortel

Nortel's new World Headquarter Office Building project converted an existing manufacturing facility into a new state-of-the art office environment for executives of Nortel. This massive renovation project included mini-cities, and meeting centres for Nortel employees.  Geo. A. Kelson Company Limited also performed a helicopter hoist for mechanical equipment spread out over the vast roofing structure. 


Rainforest Café

The Rainforest Café is located in the Yorkdale Shopping Centre in Toronto. This specialty restaurant and bar was within an occupied facility with unique water filtration system designed for rainforest feature in restaurant. Geo. A. Kelson installed a humidification system for the fog, and mist to create the restaurants jungle like atmosphere. Geo. A. Kelson delivered the project on time and on budget.


Staples Corporate Offices

STAPLES Business Depot, Canada’s leader in Small Business and Home Office supplies, builds a new construction for their Canadian home office building in Richmond Hill, Ontario.  Construction of the new 5-story building was done on time, and on budget.
The building is on Leslie Street between 16th Avenue and Major Mackenzie Drive on approximately 10 acres of land. The new building will be 125,000 square feet with ample parking and a walking path around the perimeter.


State Farm Head Office Building

New corporate head office for State Farm Insurance. The new facility comprising of 325,000 sq. ft. designed as a single facility, with a five storey north wing and a three storey south wing plus a partial basement. The two wings are linked together through a main entrance.


Steeles Technology Office Building (Sprint Canada)

Leading edge office complex providing their tenants with an extensive electrical power grid, dedicated supplementary cooling and NC 35 sound levels in the office area. Kelson created a mock up of the compartment unit room off site to demonstrate compliance to the operation and performance of the AHUs.   


Telus Head Office Building

The new Union Tower at 25 York Street will have TELUS as its main tenant. The building has 780,000 sq.ft. of “AAA” rentable space. The building is 30 storeys tall and is expected to obtain LEED Silver status. All occupied floors feature a raised flooring system which provides displacement ventilation, improving occupant comfort.


Truscan - Creekside Office Buildings

TD Corporate Real Estate’s new Creekside campus is a suburban development designed to act as a new corporate headquarters for this major Canadian financial institution. New construction consisted of the construction of two- 150,000 square foot, 6-storey office buildings linked by an elaborately designed at-grade glass enclosed structure.  


TTC - Yonge / Sheppard Subway

The TTC – Younge/Sheppard Subway project was new construction and addition to existing space. Specialized mechanical materials were used because of underground location.


Vaughan Mills Mall

Vaughan Mills Mall is the single largest new construction project in Ontario. The vast size of Vaughan Mills Mall is an entire city block, consisting of over one million square feet. The project had very tight time lines working evening, and weekends to ensure opening date for the mall. This was the first time ever in Ontario that two helicopter were used at the same time to lift air handling units to roof of building.


Victoria University Birge Carnegie Library

The Birge-Carnegie Library was formally opened to students in 1910, and served as the library of Victoria College until the opening of the E.J. Pratt Library in 1961. After a decade of being underused, the Birge-Carnegie building was renovated and re-opened as the new home of the United Church of Canada Archives in 1972, and in 1984 the Victoria University Archives moved in to share its quarters.


Whole Foods

Whole Foods Market is the leading retailer of natural and organic foods. New construction consisted of a deli, bakery and grocery store. A challenging project due to the tight downtown Toronto location.


Woodbridge Colossus Theatre

Beginning in the spring of 1998, the transformation of the highway 7 and 400 drive-in theatre began. One IMAX theatre and twenty theatres of varying sizes were built to have the appearance of a space ship. The round pod on the centre roof has two wings off of it that house the theatres. The centre pod serves as the entrance, facilitating the IMAX theatre, concessions and a second floor bar area. This centre area was very challenging as the bar and concessions are built in a circle. All pipe and duct were bent in a circle to match the radius of the counters. All exposed pipes or ducts were installed to look like they were parts of a space ship.


York Administrative Centre

York Administrative Centre in Newmarket Ontario has a unique four leaf clover building shape. Geo. A. Kelson Company Limited had to specialize our mechanical to conform to the building structure. This office building has a centre core washrooms, air handing units, cafeteria, and a continuous double loop around building for the chilled water and heating systems.


Yorkdale Shopping Centre

Yorkdale’s 1,600,000 sq.ft. expansion project had a tight schedule of 51 weeks to opening, and only six months of pre-planning. Site access and tying in with existing mall were some of the challenges on this project. One outstanding feature of the new addition is a soaring glass atrium ceiling.
